More About Jeff
Jeff Schmidt moved to Cabo in 2013, and since then he has helped hundreds of clients buy and sell more than $100s of millions in real estate in Los Cabos. He was born in Minnesota, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud University; he then earned his Master’s degree from UNLV. Since then, he worked in the mortgage industry and was licensed to sell real estate in California, Nevada, and Minnesota.
Known for his transparency and in-depth knowledge, he ensures clients fully understand every detail of the buying process—from HOA fees and closing costs to fideicomisos and property taxes—so there are no surprises or hidden fees along the way.

Buying in Mexico VS. The US and Canada
Buying a home or condo in Mexico is similar to buying property in the United States. However, there are two key differences that you will see in Mexico. First, foreigners can buy property in Mexico, but the title to the house is held in a renewable bank-held trust, called a fideicomiso. Second, buyers in Mexico can expect to pay an additional 3% acquisition tax during the closing for the property.
